The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on August 6/19.

The feast commemorates the transfiguration or metamorphosis of Christ on Mount Tabor, when our Lord appeared in His divine glory before the Apostles Peter, James, and John.

You were transfigured on the Mount,
Christ God revealing Your glory to Your
disciples, insofar as they could comprehend.
Illuminate us sinners also with Your everlasting light,
through the intercessions of the Theotokos.
Giver of light, glory to You.

This icon I made to order for a friend of mine as a gift to his mother. The inscriptions are in Tamil.
If you would like, they could be in any language.

The icon is hand-painted according to Byzantine tradition and style with mineral pigments and egg emulsion. In front, the golden leaves and colors are covered with protective varnish. It preserves colors to stay fresh and vivid. The back of the wooden panel is covered with dark-colored varnish. Panels are entirely natural linden wood. All materials used to prepare the wood for iconography are natural as well.
