Virgin Hodegetria is an iconographic depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus at her side while pointing to him as the source of salvation for humankind. The Virgin’s head usually inclines towards the child, who raises his hand in a blessing gesture.

The icon is hand-painted according to Byzantine tradition and style. The icon is meticulously painted using mineral pigments and egg emulsion. In front, the golden 22K leaves and colors are covered with protective varnish. It preserves colors so they stay fresh. The back of the wooden panel is covered with dark-colored varnish.

Panels are entirely natural wood. All materials used to prepare the wood for iconography are natural as well.
