The icon depicts the joy of the announcement of the coming Christ, the Saviour of the world. We could see Archangel Gabriel, who had descended from heaven, telling the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive a child who is the son of God. Her response is a model of faith and obedience, embodying her surrender to the will of God. Although the act of the Annunciation happens when the Virgin Mary is at the well to get some water, here she is represented sitting on a throne, as it symbolises that she is a heavenly and earthly queen. The joy of the Annunciation brings us the faith and the hope for our salvation.

The icon is hand-painted on a linden wooden desk, according to Byzantine iconographic techniques: egg tempera, a smooth ground linden desk, and 23.7 K high-quality golden leaves from established brands. The final varnish covers and protects the vividness of the colours, preserving the desk.
Panels are of natural wood, made by hand. All materials used to prepare the wood for iconography are natural as well.
