Saint Ilya The Prophet (Elias) hand-painted icon

Saint Elijah, the prophet, is one of the most beloved, greatest, and holy prophets of the Old Testament. He lived in the 9th century B.C., during the reign of the sinful King Ahab, King of Israel, who worshipped the idol of Baal.
Elijah was wise and faithful to the true God. God sent Prophet Elias to speak the truth to King Ahab and his evil wife, Jezebel. Not only did King Ahab not listen to Prophet Elias, but he also threatened to kill him.
To escape, Prophet Elias fled to a mountain. There he stayed and hid in a cave. Every day, God sent a crow with meat and bread to feed Prophet Elias. He would drink from a nearby stream. The icon depicts the scene with the crow that brings Elijah food in the cave he used as a shelter.
The icon is hand-painted according to Byzantine tradition and style – with mineral pigments and egg emulsion. In front, the golden leaves /23.7K/ and colours are covered with protective varnish. It preserves it to stay vivid and fresh. The back of the wooden panel is covered with dark-coloured varnish.
Panels are entirely natural wood. All materials used to prepare the wood for iconography are natural as well.
