On Mount Athos, Saint John the Hesychast served as an elder and monk. He has acclaim for being a spiritual father of the monks who revitalized the 6th of the 20th monastery on Mount Athos.

His memory is commemorated on the 16th of August. And he is one of the most beloved fathers of our time for his pure and engrossed prayer and is one of the monks mentioned who was granted the gift of the ‘Uncreated Light.’ The relic of the Elder’s head is kept in St. Anthony’s monastery, in Arizona (USA), while the rest of his relics are kept in the Vatopedi monastery. Many visitors to Athos report that his relics give off a divine fragrance. The abbot of Vatopedi monastery, Fr. Ephraim, spoke publicly in Athens about miracles performed through the intercession of Elder Joseph the Hesychast and even about miraculous appearances of him.

This icon is written according to the Byzantine technique and tradition, using egg tempera and 23.7K golden leaves, and a final varnish protects the colors and keeps them vivid.
The wooden panel is made of sycamore wood. All materials used to prepare the wood for iconography are natural as well.
